We are a for-profit company (because there is too much paperwork to become a non-profit) and all profit from the sale of our coffees' goes to support a mobile medial unit which serves Guatemalan pickers and their families with dental and medical services. Esperanza Coffee Company was formed in 2016 by Richard Buehl. He is a retired Caterpillar Inc. employee who spent 25 of his 36 years with the company traveling Latin America, Central America, and South America. "I have seen the impact that coffee has on the Latin people. Coffee is the second largest traded commodity in the world, second only to oil, and it is the life blood of Latin America. This is my opportunity to give back for all the kindness shown to me during my travels."
GUATEMALA COFFEE PLANTATION TRIP
In 2016 I visited a number of coffee fincas in Guatemala. This is a summary of the trip you may enjoy looking at. It will give you a feel of the beauty of the country and some of what it takes to make that great cup of coffee. Hint: To make it easier to view this, click >> at the upper right of the viewer and select "Presentation Mode". Esc to return to here.
GUATEMALA IS A VERY RUGGED COUNTRY TO TRAVERS.
Here is a short video of us crossing a cable bridge on our way to one of the fincas. Keep in mind that all of the coffee beans from this finca must traverse this same bridge to get to market.
2019 CHECK PRESENTATION
In 2018 I presented a check to the organization behind the mobile clinic that provides health care to the pickers and their families. The trailer shown in the photo is 1/3 dental clinic and 2/3 medical clinic which is hauled up into the mountains and staffed by local dentists and doctors.
